This week the owners of The Dyke Pub withdrew their planning application to redevelop the building into a small pub, retail and maisonettes. Many local residents will feel relieved that the plans have been shelved.
The owners are open to approaches from anyone interested in purchasing the pub via their agent Fleurets (01273 429500) and are exploring retail options in the meantime.
The Save The Dyke Group have always looked at saving the Dyke as a long term project. Supporting the owners’ proposal for a smaller pub/retail/private residential scheme would have meant accepting an irreversible change to an historic community asset. Although we may not be drinking a pint at our local by Christmas, we believe that in the long-term, the withdrawal of the planning application does give the Dyke a brighter future, with the potential for the whole building and garden to revert to being a pub.
Thank you for your ongoing support for our campaign – it’s not easy as people have mixed views. We are encouraged that any prospective pub buyers will see that the support from the local community is huge!
If you want to hear more about the ongoing campaign and future plans for the Dyke, please join us at our next community meeting on Thursday 2 November – details to be confirmed soon.
