Within days of the pub closing on 3rd September 2016, a Facebook Group Save The Dyke Pub had gained 400 members. On the afternoon of 11th September members of the group joined friends and neighbours outside The Dyke Pub – now a furniture store called ‘Emporium – Treasure and Trash’ – to protest against the closure.

The protest was featured in the Brighton Argus and Brighton & Hove Independent.

There was no hint of it closing at all. It seemed very sudden. It was a pub which welcomed a huge number of people. The fact there’s been such a response to its closure indicates the sense of community there is around here.We want to try and find a way of making the pub a community asset.
